Performing a spermiogram is one of the first few things a fertility expert will ask from a male patient having problems with infertility.
This service includes a basic semen analysis, including sperm culture - a test performed to determine the count, shape and motility of the sperm and if infection in the semen is negatively affecting fertility. The advanced test includes all tests in the basic package, plus sperm DNA fragmentation, which assesses the quality of the genetic material in sperm.
The Sperm Chromatin Dispersion (SCD) test is a diagnostic technique to assess sperm DNA fragmentation (SDF). It works by treating sperm with an acid to denature the DNA, followed by lysis to remove proteins. Sperm with intact DNA form large halos of chromatin dispersion, while fragmented DNA results in small or no halos. This test is simple, cost-effective, and widely used in fertility evaluations. This test is performed at our clinic in Enfield.
The COMET assay (EXACT test) is another method for detecting DNA damage in sperm. In this test, sperm cells are embedded in agarose gel, lysed, and subjected to electrophoresis. Fragmented DNA migrates, forming a "comet tail," with the length and intensity of the tail indicating the degree of DNA damage. The Comet assay provides detailed quantitative and qualitative information on sperm DNA integrity. This test is performed at our clinic in Harley Street. Kindly empty your bladder, wash your hands and genitalia before producing a sample to limit contamination due to bacteria in the lower urethra and skin. Do not touch the inner surface of the culture pot.

The Doctors Laboratory, UK’s leading laboratory service, will perform the semen analysis and culture test if you attend our Harley Street location. Examen Laboratory will perform the COMET assay. If you attend our Enfield clinic, your semen analysis and SCD test will be performed by Acorn Andrology.
The results of the semen analysis and SCD test at our Enfield clinic are available within a day.
Semen analysis at Harley Street can take up to 5 working days.
The results for the semen culture test can take up to 10 days if antibiotic sensitivity is performed, whereas the COMET assay results can take up to 14 days.

Humm lets you spread the total cost over 12 monthly payments. The first payment, equal to 1/12 of the purchase price, occurs once your order is completed.
