Performing a spermiogram is one of the first few things a fertility expert will ask from a male patient having problems with infertility.

This service includes a basic semen analysis, including sperm culture - a test performed to determine the count, shape and motility of the sperm and if infection in the semen is negatively affecting fertility. The advanced test includes all tests in the basic package with the addition of sperm DNA fragmentation which checks the quality of the genetic material within the sperm.

You’ll have to attend our clinic in London to maintain the sample’s integrity. Simply book your preferred date through our secure online portal and read the prerequisites for your sperm test below.

Depending on the tests that will be performed, you’ll be asked to wait 7-14 working days for the results. After this, your results will be reviewed by our in-house fertility expert, Dr Irfana Koita, who’ll discuss your results and explore possible treatment options if required.

Who should have the test?

All men having a fertility assessment or treatment.

Any prerequisite for the test?

- 2 days of abstinence

- No history of raised temperature in the last 3 months, if you wish to perform the sperm DNA test

Kindly empty your bladder, wash your hands and genitalia before producing a sample to limit contamination due to bacteria in the lower urethra and skin. Do not touch the inner surface of the culture pot.

Who will analyse the sample?

The Doctors Laboratory, UK’s leading laboratory service will perform the semen analysis and semen culture test. The Sperm DNA fragmentation test will be performed by Examen Laboratory.

How long will it take to get the results?

Up to 5 working days.

The results for the semen culture test can take up to 10 days if antibiotic sensitivity is performed, whereas the sperm DNA fragmentation test results can take up to 14 days.

How will the results be sent?

Via an email link to our secure patient portal.

Can I pay in instalments?

To be eligible, you must have the entire amount of your purchase available on your card. At the time of purchase, you will only be charged for the first payment. The remaining balance will be held on the credit card until the final payment is made.

LayBuy lets you spread the total cost over 6 weekly automatic payments. The first payment equal to one-sixth of the purchase price occurs once your order is completed.
