Endometrial Biopsy | Endomterial Scratch + Clinical Review
This test includes a complimentary call with our fertility expert, Dr Irfana Koita.
An endometrial biopsy helps detect the presence of bacteria (tissue culture, EMMA, ALICE) or abnormal cells (histology) and determine the implantation window (ERA). Endometrial immune profiling is a novel concept based on analysing the local immune reaction occurring in the endometrium at the time of implantation. If you’ve been experiencing heavy or irregular bleeding, infertility, or unsuccessful IVF, an Endometrial biopsy may help you understand why.
If you have experienced unsuccessful IVF cycles despite good-quality embryos being transferred, an endometrial scratch may improve the chances of the embryo implanting.
These tests require an endometrial sample and must be conducted at one of our London Clinics. Simply order through our site, select a convenient time, and we’ll book you in. You’ll receive your results in up to 14 working days through our secure patient portal.
The biopsy is performed by our consultant Dr Koita and your results will be reviewed by her as well.
Feel free to use our services or contact us, even if you’re undergoing treatment at another private or NHS Clinic.

FAQs
An endometrial scratch or endometrial biopsy involves passing a catheter via the neck of the womb to obtain a sample of the cells that line the womb (the endometrium) under ultrasound guidance. The cells are sent to the laboratory for analysis as per indication.
Those having fertility treatment should have an assessment of the cells that line the uterine cavity prior to starting fertility treatment.
The endometrial scratch is likely to be helpful in those with a history of unsuccessful IVF cycles in spite of good quality embryos being transferred, as it may improve implantation potential.
However, endometrial scratch and immune profiling remain controversial and should only be performed after a discussion with an immunologist or a fertility specialist. Click here to read the HFEA report on treatment add ons.
